I am looking to correspond with someone living in the Falklands. I am extremely interested in the islands. I am interested in the history, culture and lifestyle of the Islands as well as the Falkland Islands conflict. I would like to speak with anyone currently living in the islands because I have read many books and visited many websites and now I’d like to know what its really like. I am interested in talking with anyone who was born on the islands or anyone who was born elsewhere but who now call the islands home. I would love to talk via email, snail mail or msn. If anyone would be willing to speak with me that would be great. To reach you can email me at raxal@hotmail.com. I look forward to hearing from anyone. Devon

Bravo to all of you wonderful Falklanders. I find your homeland and history of great interest. I followed the Falklands War with great interests as it unfolded and am very glad to see that a grand 25th celebration was held. This is a very nice website. How about adding some pictures of the local sights, towns, villages, and settlements. May the Falkland Islands always remain British, Steve Nichols

A long shot I know but I wondered if this guy is the same one that I lived next to in Hong Kong about 45years ago(as I heard that he had married a Falkland girl) when our fathers were stationed there in the navy his parents were called Dennis & Pat, mine were Brian and Nita regards denise

Can anyone tell me if there are any radio hams still active in the Falklands? I picked up the last transmission from VP8 before the invasion in 1982, but nothing since then. I'd appreciate a contact, a schedule and any other useful information which will will enable me to tune in again. My email address is cim-cimcom@tiscali.co.uk. Many thanks.

We are a British family moving to FI in 2 months to join our husband who is already working there. We are Mum, 6 year old son and newborn son and we will be living at North Arm. I am hoping to make contact with other families anywhere within the Falklands so that we have friends etc when we arrive. It would be nice to not to be complete strangers when we move there!

Hi there, I am final year sociology student here at the University of Liverpool and I'm currently writing my dissertation about the Falklands conflict and the lessons learned. I am just wondering if anyone would mind emailing me a few sentances to be included in the dissertation, and to be quoted. I am seeking more of your experiences of the conflict, did you feel it was more of a socio political card played by Mrs Thatcher or do you feel it was purely because other issues ? I would welcome any forms of emails, even if to say hi !!! Take Care Mark

I was wondering if any constable or legal counsel on the Falklands could tell me anything about the law (or enforcement of the law) as it pertains to drinking and driving in your neck of the woods. Also, I'd like to mention that - to me - your beautiful islands have long been the object of an irresistible fascination. Hi guys, I wonder if you can help me out. I had a classmate in primary school who was from the Falkland Islands, here in Montevideo (Uruguay), and I'd like to contact her. Her name was Tracy Freeman, and I guess she would be around 24 by now. I've studied English for over 10 years and recently learned about some language training courses for foreigners, offered by FILO in Stanley, Falkland Islands... and like a flash I remembered about my Islander classmate Tracy! It's been so long that I'm afraid I don't remember very well what she looked like, but I do remember the stories she told us about the Islands and her sea journey -- all translated to us by the teacher! Heh, another thing I remember is that she used to bite her lips together all the time -- I guess being in a class with 30 Spanish-speaking classmates, in a city with a population of 1,500,000, and wearing a funny uniform might have made her a little nervous! :) Anyway, I'm considering taking this language course in the FI, and in that case I thought it would be nice to meet her, to exchange a couple of old photographs -sadly, I lost my 1989 class picture, but have others-, and see how she's been doing -- if she's still biting her lips and stuff! If you would be so kind as to lend me a hand with this, I would be very grateful! Oh, I searched on the internet and I found a result that looks like a possible direction or address: "Hansen Hill". Does that help? Also I believe she had a sister, but I'm not completely sure. Well, that's all I've got. I'm looking forward to hear from you soon. Thanks! J.P.

I am just wondering if anyone has any info on them or even knows of a builder or driver that used one as they are now to old to get a manual for. I am based in an other Island like yourselves in the Outer Hebrides and can appreciate the difficulties in obtaining things. Hello! I'm a grandpa, 64 years old, (friendly and easy going), wishing to visit the Falklands Islands in a near future, flying my little plane in a solo flight. I´m already a retired airline pilot, and I´ve been living and flying in New Zealand and Fiji Islands for some years, (as a B747 Captain) just before my retirement. But I´d like very much getting in touch with people there, and perhaps make some friends, prior to arrival. Any age is OK. Anyone answering my post? Thanks a lot!

I am a fourth generation Kelper, but have lived abroad for 40 years, my parents used to have the Speedwell store (Phyllis and Don)and we lived in Stanley. I would love to bring my family for a visit to the FI, including my partner Amanda and my two children Oscar 5, and Ella 9. We live in a large 3 bedroom detatched house right on the Sussex coast, 9 miles West of Brighton, and a 30 minute drive from London Gatwick. We would love to do a house swap with someone for our (almost!) planned trip next Christmas ie December 2005. If anyone is interested could they please contact us and we will give you some information on our house. We look forward to any replies!! Many thanks John, Amanda, Ella and Oscar.

I have recently come across  information that my Grandmother came from the Falkland Islands. Her father, born in England 1843, was Edwin Charles Gleadle, her name was Ella Gleadell and left the Falklands in the 1920's. In her "birthday" book several family members are noted. Are there any Gleadells still in the Falklands?

Hello...I finished my A-levels earlier this year, and I'll be staying in the Falklands for a few months, probably from mid-October onwards, before I go to university in 2005. I'm just looking to get in touch with someone over there, perhaps around my age (I'll be 19 in a few days), who could tell me a little about the Islands and show me around when I arrive. Hope to hear from someone soon!

My grandfather was Alfred Stanley Benton. If anyone has any information at all I would really appreciate it, including any photographs of the old school and gardeners cottage at Government House where they lived. Hi everyone,
I'm wondering if anyone would share with me a bit more info on employment opportunities?  I'm a 30 year old dual UK/US citizen, living in the USA right now.  I'd love to get a unique experience living and working a year or two (or more) in an place as fascinating, remote, and unique as the Falklands.  I have a university degree, but no particular specialize skills.  I'd be up for any sort of work, provided it paid enough to live on!
What are the realistic chances of landing something and being issued a work permit?   Any particular job fields that need workers?   Any links I should keep my eye on...where they advertise job openings?
I'd truly love to do something like this, so I'd appreciate any advice/input. Cheers!
